Cookie Making!

I love making cookies. I am not a great "cook" but do not mess with me in the cookie department. I have many wonderful memories of cookie baking with my Mom. She always says that making cookies is the best thing to do on a rainy day. It was pouring outside so the idea seemed to fit perfectly! Last week while the kids were in town we had a great time cutting, decorating, and eating.
Their beautiful creations!
Cali was a pro, and Carter wanted specific instructions on when to push and when to pull the cookie cutter up.

The dough I made wasn't the greatest, so I began searching the WWW for something a little better. I found the recipe below and made these cookies this week for some friends and family. Pull this recipe out sometime when it's rainy! These are so good you won't regret it!

Awesome Sugar Cookie Recipe
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) of softened butter
  • 1-1/2 cups of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of sour cream (I used vanilla greek yogurt instead of sour cream)

Cream the butter and the sugar together, making sure to combine it well. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix it a little more. Add all of the dry ingredients (the flour, baking soda, and salt) and mix it again.. Then add the sour cream. Mix it one more time. The dough should have a firm quality and still be soft. (Be sure that you taste test it—taste testing sugar cookie dough is never a bad idea!) If the dough is too sticky, be sure to add more flour. If you do need to add more flour, make sure that you add it gradually—you don't want the dough to be too dry either!

Once the dough consistency is to your liking, put it in the fridge and let it chill for at least an hour. Once the dough is sufficiently chilled (you will know if it is chilled enough if it is stiff and kind of hard to manipulate). Take some dough and roll is out so it is between a quarter and a half of an inch thick. Then take whatever cookie cutters you want and cut the cookies out. If you are making Halloween cookies, use pumpkin cookie cutters; if you are making St. Patrick's Day cookies, use shamrock cookie cutters; if you are making cookies for Valentine's Day, use heart-shaped cutters; you get the idea!

When you have filled up a tray of cut out cookie dough (you should have about a dozen cookies per cookie sheet), bake them in an oven preheated to 375 degrees for nine to ten minutes. The cookies should be barely, barely, hardly even brown on the very, very bottom of the cookies. These cookies will not be good at all if they are overbaked. Don't leave these cookies out overnight uncovered, or else they will get hard and they won't be any good at all. What makes these cookies good is their soft, fluffy quality. If these sugar cookies are hard, they won't satisfy any sweet tooth at all.

Fun with the Fam

Last Saturday Tyler and I headed out for a fun shopping spree. After raiding old navy we met up with Cammie, Christian, and the kids. We had a great time seeing all the fun things at the aquarium. The penguins were awesome and Carter loved dragging Tyler around.
Cali and I were brave and touched the sting rays. Carter kept yelling "Cali touch it!" but there was no way he was putting his hand in there!

Next, the boys headed to Pat's BBQ and Cammie and I took the kids to visit my Dad who was in town. We stopped for lunch at Carl's Jr. and Cammie attempted this picture. Love these kids! It was great seeing so much family in one day!

Happy 26th!

This year my birthday rocked! My parents came on the 19th and we went to the temple. Next we picked up Tyler and headed to Tepanyaki for dinner! It was so much fun watching our food get cooked, thrown, and lit on fire. I even caught shrimp in my mouth!

I have a good feeling about 26! here's to the best year yet!
My actual birthday (20) was busy because I had turbo kick and Tyler had a test. We were both so tired that we headed to taco bell and picked up my annual baskin robins ice cream cake!

Rock Springs! Yee Haw!

How could I resist a photo op with my sister and her newly copyrighted t-shirt!

A few weekends ago I took a quick Saturday trip to R.S. The kids were finishing their soccer season, and I can't resist that cute little baby Caleb! We had a great time! I brought the boys their b-day presents and we had so much fun with the nerf gun I wish I had one!

The kids took me on a walk to the "desert"
Me and Caleb! Yes I want to kidnap him!
The infamous nerf gun!

Good Friends

"Friends can make you laugh like no one else can."

Friday night was a blast! One of my all time favorite friends and co-workers Isaac just landed an awesome job! We celebrated by eating at Tiaphoon! I am so glad I have such great friends to spend all day with!

Castle Dale October 9/10

After Dory's Play we headed to Castle Dale. It was great seeing our families. I also had lunch with Mckette, Canned with my Mom, ran the 5 mile Castle Dale/Orangeville loop, and my Mom taught me how to make bows. It was relaxing and fun.
Isn't she a cutie! I love my Mom and Castle Dale is so beautiful this time of year!
While I was staying busy Tyler's Saturday went something like this.

Fishing at Joes bright and early

Shooting at the "shooting place" Look how happy he is! Seriously!

I even gave it a try! This gun is bad a$$! I will certainly be shooting it again. I felt like a gangster!

After the shooting extravaganza Tyler headed back to the lake for more fishing!
And what do you do when it's too late to fish....Well if you are Tyler Gilson you go find your Dad and go back to the shooting place! (I am really not kidding)
We had so much fun we stayed Monday and Tyler went fishing again!

A visit to Dory

Earlier this month we headed down to Cedar for our annual "see Dory's play" trip! It was a blast. Dory performed in SUU's production or Loves Labours Lost. Dory was the best one of course! We spent a few minutes together before the show and walked around the campus. I am so glad we could go watch this rising star! She is so talented!
Me, Dory!
Me and William S.! The man
Cute Tyler!
